Memorial services for Martha Florene Steele, 93, of Lubbock, will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with the family to receive friends immediately following. Private burial will be at Resthaven. Mrs. Steele passed away on Sunday, March 21st. Florene was born on February 23, 1917 in Callahan County, TX to Elbert and Georgia Pierce. She was raised and attended schools in Callahan County, graduating from Cross Plains High School. On September 11, 1936, she married Weldon Steele in Cross Plains. She and Weldon were longtime Lubbock residents and were Charter Members of Second Baptist Church in Lubbock.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, as well as 2 brothers and a sister. Survivors include her son, Ron and wife, Cindy Steele of Lubbock; grandchildren, Jon Steele, of Shreveport, LA, Matt and wife Catherine Steele, of Ausin, and Tyler Stansell of Lubbock. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Ave, Lubbock, 79424.
