Mary E. Cherry

Mary had 2 sisters that passed away at a young age from Diphtheria. Growing up, she was then the only sister alongside 5 brothers. She doted on the love and care that she received from them. Mary treasured her brothers and their families.

Mary graduated from Floydada High School in 1954. She then married the love of her life, Howard Cherry. After Howard’s return from the Korean War in 1956, they made their home in Lubbock, Texas and raised two children, Travis and Linda.

They were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Genesis Baptist Fellowship for most of their married life, all while serving on different church committees. Mary was an active Sunday School teacher and a choir member. She loved to sing her praises to the Lord. Her and Howard spent many of their years dedicated to their church family.

After her children left home, she worked at Texas Instruments not only making watches and calculators, but creating lifelong friendships.

Mary and Howard spent their retirement years traveling. Visiting family and friends was their hobby. Yet, her truest passion was the love she had for her husband. They were married for 65 years.

After Howard’s death, Mary then moved to San Angelo, Texas for 2 years until she lost her battle with eye cancer on April 29, 2022. She was 86 years old.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Donald Cherry; 5 brothers, James(Gladys)Bailey, Donny Wiley, Richard(Peggy)Wiley, Frank(Charlotte)Wiley, and Leon Wiley; 2 sisters, Lida Ruth Wiley and Freda Merle Wiley.

She is survived by her two children, Travis Cherry and wife Carol, and Linda Scott and husband Don.

Five grandchildren, Amy and Doug Hawk, Aaron Cherry and Terin Tucker, Andrew and Casey Cherry, Wesley and Micha Scott, and Starr and Leland Foster.

Eleven great-grandchildren, Hannah Hawk, Ainsley Hawk, Elijah Hawk, Anson Cherry, Kenley Cherry, Cameron Cherry, Rylan Scott, Amryn Scott, Daygen Scott, Wayland Foster, and Nathan Foster.

One sister-in-law, Betsy Wiley.

Special family friend, Dakota Smith.

Numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
