Myra was born on March 24, 1927 in Snyder Texas to the late Dorsie and Bessie (McClanahan) Bigony. She attended McMurry College in Abilene, TX, where she was honored as the “Campus Queen” her junior year. She married William J. (Bill) Pierson on July 2, 1948 in Lubbock at St John’s United Methodist Church. Myra was a devoted wife and mother and a woman of great sacrifice for her family. Her greatest memory was taking her whole family to Hawaii to celebrate her and Bill’s 50th wedding anniversary. Myra extended grace and kindness not only to her children, but also to any family member passing through Lubbock. She loved to give them a home cooked meal or a place to stay. Many in the family came to feel Myra and Bill’s home was a family gathering place.
She worked as a teacher and bus driver for many years at Mecham kindergarten and as a sales clerk with Furr’s Family Center. In her spare time, she most enjoyed family gatherings and travels to reunions, partner meetings, and family vacations. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Pierson, her sisters Dorothy Bigony, Francis Bigony Puckett, and Rita Bigony Spradling.
Those left to cherish Myra’s memories and sacrifices include three children, son William James Pierson of Irving, Teresa Elizabeth Dorch of Friendswood Texas, and Weldon Thomas Pierson and wife Marianne, of Bartonville Texas; two granddaughters, Lauren and Christina Dorch; and a great-granddaughter Madison Elise.
