

She was born in Spur, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Chellie Williams. Norweeta was the only girl in a family with four older brothers.
Norweetas’s family moved from Spur to Union, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She married Ralph Mathis in 1946 and began her married life as a housewife and kind-hearted, loving mother of five children. She put her energy into her family and home. Later in life, Norweeta enjoyed drinking coffee, watching television, and visiting with her friends.
Norweeta was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; her brothers: Snooks Williams, Russell Williams, Dillard Williams, C.L. Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Villarrel and Reese Hamsmith.
She is survived by her children: Mike (D’Nan) Mathis, Ron (Cathy) Mathis, Carroll (Gwynn) Mathis, Alana Mathis, all of Lubbock, Rocky (Natasha) Mathis of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren: Chad (Laura) Mathis of Austin, Trista (Chris) Hamsmith of Lubbock, Mitch Mathis of Sugar Hills, GA, Mackenzie (Ryan) Knape of Alvin, Jennifer (Donnell) Hopkins of Charlottesville, VA, Chase Mathis of Lynchburg, VA, Katie McClure, Matthew (Natalie) Mathis, Justin Mathis, Sasha Smith, Bailey Abston, Kadee Abston, and Kirklyn Webb all of Lubbock; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023. The family will receive guests at 1:00 p.m. in the Texas Tech Mausoleum Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Park, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow starting at 2:00 p.m.
