

Patricia Colleen (Loyd) Marx was born on March 12, 1943 and she passed away on April 5, 2026 from complications related to Huntington’s Disease. Memorial services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock on Saturday, April 11th at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, come and go as you please.
Patricia (Pat) was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 12, 1943 to Coleman and Frances (Rummel) Loyd. Pat grew up in West Virginia and Bryan, Texas. She graduated from high school in Bryan and during her time there practiced and won awards as a sharpshooter with the nickname “Annie Oakley.” She attended college at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, obtaining a BA in Psychology, minor in Sociology in 1965. While attending college she worked at summer camps for children in New England with her brother. She pursued graduate studies at East Texas University (now Texas A&M at Commerce) 1966, MA in Psychology and Texas Woman’s University 1969, MA in Library Sciences.
On December 21, 1974 she married the love of her life, John Marx, in Lubbock, Texas where she lived for the rest of her life. She had a distinguished career as a librarian at Texas Tech University where she worked for 37 years mentoring college students. Giving back to her community was of high priority to Pat.
She regularly volunteered at her church, Christ the King, in the Boy Scouts, and at various other places around Lubbock. Pat loved teaching, children, and the outdoors, which coalesced into her commitment to the Boy Scouts. She earned high honors in that organization and dedicated years of her life to helping children.
Pat loved to travel and drove her family around the United States on educational trips. After retiring she hosted six exchange students in her home and later volunteered at Covenant Hospital in the gift shop.
She is survived by a daughter Ruthie Marx and Matt Tyler and their son Skye of Eugene, Oregon; a son Sam Marx and partner Jae Lappinga; his son and family Ethan and Abby Foshee of Austin, Texas; her brother Joe and his wife Maggie Loyd of Landenberg, Pennsylvania; and many relatives by marriage in the Nebraska region.
She was loved and remembered by many people in her community and will be missed. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA), The Boy Scouts, Christ the King Cathedral of Lubbock, KTTZ public radio in Lubbock, or the Lubbock Symphony.
