Russell Wayne Hubach

Russell Wayne Hubach was born October 21, 1937, on the family farm outside Judsonia, Arkansas, to William “Bill” and Helen “Bee” Hubach. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three older siblings, Emogene Miller, Billie Ray, and Jimmie.

Russell graduated from Judsonia High School in 1955. He was well known throughout White County as the first driver of the county’s bookmobile—a role he cherished for the opportunity it gave him to connect with people of all ages while traveling throughout the community.

In the early 1960s, Russell moved to the Houston area, settling in Pasadena and Deer Park. It was there that he met the love of his life, Charlene Peacock, at Shaw Street Church of Christ. They were married on August 6, 1966, and built a life together centered on faith and family, welcoming two children, Suzanne and Dennis.

Russell worked in the shipping department at Gulf Oil, later Chevron Chemical Company, where he dedicated 33 years before retiring in 1999. He and Charlene were longtime members of Watters Road Church of Christ in Pasadena.

After retirement, Russell and Charlene moved to Lubbock to be closer to their granddaughter, Lauren. He faithfully stood by Charlene’s side during her long battle with breast cancer until her passing in 2008. Russell was a devoted member of South Plains Church of Christ.

Russell is survived by his loving family: his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Lloyd Payne of Lubbock; his son, Dennis Hubach of Columbus, Ohio; and his beloved granddaughter, Lauren Payne of Nashville, Tennessee. He also held dear his extended family and many friends in Arkansas and the Houston area.

Russell will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle spirit, and genuine kindness. He loved visiting with others and often made it a point to take friends to church when they could no longer drive. He adored babies and found joy in puzzles, gardening, traveling, and making special memories on trips to Disney with his family.

Visitation will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd St., Lubbock, TX 79424, US, on April 22, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at South Plains Church of Christ, 6802 Elkhart Ave, Lubbock, TX 79424, US, on April 23, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and love Russell received from the staff at Raider Ranch, the Friendship Class at SPCOC, and Dr. Ron Cook.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Plains church of Christ camp scholarships or the charity of your choice in memory of Russell.
