

Scott was born on April 24, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas to Robert (Bob) Badgett and Mary Allen Jones Badgett. He attended Lubbock schools and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in accounting. As a CPA he worked in the areas of auditing, investments, real estate, and oil & gas software development before returning to the world of academics. After a career in business Scott went back to school (in which he excelled) and received a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Texas Tech. He then moved to New York to pursue a Doctorate in Psychology from Fordham University.
He worked for several years in New York as Director of Psychosocial Services with clinics in the Bronx in addition to establishing a Private Practice in Psychology. He was in New York City when the 2001 terror attack took place and worked with many patients experiencing the loss of loved ones and the trauma of that fateful day. In 2003 Scott moved back to Lubbock and established a Private Practice in Psychology and Rehabilitation Psychology.
Scott was gregarious and compassionate with friends, his patients and their families. He was well loved and respected by both friends and professional colleagues. He made a lasting impression on those he worked and interacted with.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary Badgett, of Lubbock, and his brother-in-law Jim Sims of Amarillo.
Survivors include his sister, Laura Sims of Amarillo, his niece, Erin Sims Leeser and husband Andrew of Sugar Land, Texas and his nephew, Barrett Sims and wife Tiffany of Amarillo. Scott was a fun loving uncle to his great nephews – Lincoln, Lawson and Bauer Leeser and Riley Sims as well as his great niece, Olivia Sims.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Friday, June 27th, 6:30 pm at Metropolitan Community Church, 4501- University Ave in Lubbock. It will be an informal potluck dinner and time to share memories and stories of Dr. Scott Allen Badgett. Those that knew him well, knew he loved a good party!
