I had Mr. Ponder for science class when I was at Matthews in the mid 1970s. He was a wonderful teacher. He made learning interesting and fun. He always had a smile and seemed to really enjoy teaching. It was because of him that I’ve had a lifetime love for Science.

Mr. Ponder was my home room teacher and Science teacher while I was at Matthews Junior High. It takes a special educator, like Mr. Ponder, to leave you with life long great memories of class time with him. He will never be forgotten as he made us feel valued and we had had so much fun. Great job Mr. Ponder! You made a difference in many students' lives!!!

At every Ponder reunion, I always looked forward to seeing your face and receiving your hug. Your southern manners and charm were enchanting to us "Sisco Kids" from Wisconsin. The lilt in your voice and your gentle humor created a treasure box of cherished memories following each visit. Although you are now physically gone, you will forever be in my heart. I love you. Your niece, Betty
