Tila Bowers, 82, of Lubbock, Texas passed away January 22, 2016, at her home in the presence of her husband and her children and in very peaceful surroundings. She was born in Torreon, Mexico on March 25, 1933 to Samuel and Annette Terrazas and was predeceased by her parents and siblings.
She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1955. She soon became active in community affairs such as political organizations and numerous civic endeavors. Any new acquaintance felt as if they were long-time friends. One-on-one relationships were among many of Tila’s gifts. She and her husband, Forrest, were married over 53 years. While raising a large family she enjoyed life’s daily tasks, but she also enjoyed many of life’s blessings. Tila learned to love flying from her husband, a former P-51 fighter pilot and she became a licensed pilot. She loved hunting and fishing both in the mountains of Colorado or in South Texas. She was queen of the bunny slopes while snow skiing and tried her best to water ski although with less success. She and her husband shared life’s challenges and opportunities.
The most important thing Tila and Forrest shared was their Faith in the Lord. As a member of First Christian Church she was a passionate supporter of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and served in leadership capacities for several years. She was named CWF’s Woman of the Year in 1987 and was selected as a Deacon Emeritus in recent years. She helped institute a strong relationship between the High Plains Area churches and mission work in Aguascalientes, Mexico. She served in area and regional ministries for many years.
She is survived by her husband Forrest and her children Raul and his wife Kelley of Pampa, Texas, Jimmy of Lubbock, Lisa Harbert and her husband Roger of San Antonio, Texas, Fred and his wife Connie of Lubbock and a step-daughter Laura Henline of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She devoted time to those less fortunate and helping those who are truly in need.
At her request contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund for the Beans and Rice Project which supports the church’s ministry in South Texas. Her gift of preparing meals for large numbers of people will continue through these contributions.
Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
