Truett Lee Mortensen, lovingly known as “T” or” T-Man”, was born on May 24, 2010, in Lubbock, Texas, to Aaron and Katelyn Mortensen. He became a proud big brother in 2013 to his sister, Brylinn, and came into this world with his older brother, Chad. Surrounded by loved ones, Truett took his final breath on January 3, 2026, passing away while doing what he loved most: hunting, fishing, and riding ATVs.
Truett resided in New Home, Texas, and was a Sophomore at New Home High School where he was known for his big heart, crooked smile, curly locks, three painted finger nails and even bigger personality. He lived a life full of love, joy, and deep devotion to his family, bringing light and laughter to every room he entered. At the age of six, Truett found a deep love for baseball that stayed with him throughout his life. He played for Western Little League and New Home Little League and went on to play travel ball for the Lubbock Raiders, Texans, and Leopards, among others, before playing for the New Home Leopards High School baseball team. He was beloved by his family, friends and teammates. Every time number 13 stepped onto the field, he gave every ounce of grit, determination, and drive, rising to the challenge time and time again behind the plate. Truett was also a Junior Umpire for the New Home Little League. When he wasn’t on the field, you could find him casting a line or baiting a hook, sitting in a deer blind hunting, playing catch with his sister, tinkering with his truck, building something out of nothing, and cooking, baking, or smoking delicious meals. He was always ready to help with anything, offering a hand to anyone who needed it. Truett had a heart of gold that was unmatched and touched so many lives with kindness and generosity beyond his 15 years of life. To his parents, he was the perfect son, known for his love and bright spirit.
Truett is lovingly survived by his parents, Aaron and Katelyn; his sister, Brylinn, and brother, Chad; his grandparents, Eddy and Norma Nash, and Bessie Gonzales; his aunts and uncles, Jama and Matt Beerwinkle (Laiken, Westin and Emalynn), Dean and Janice Mortensen (Ryan, Cody and Kelli), and Shane Mortensen and Elisa Begay (Shanae, Keith and Allison); his great-grandparents Sue Nash and Patricia Moseley.
Truett was preceded in death and is joyfully reunited in Heaven with his grandparents, Bill Mortensen, Leo Gonzales, Donny Nash, and Norman Williamson; his great-grandparents, Violet and Herb Nash, Evelyn and Buck Richardson, and Wynona and Hillard Mortensen; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and dear friends.
