Vernon Leon Paul passed away peacefully after a long and full life. In his early years Vernon enjoyed playing Basketball at Texas Tech University from 1966-1968 and made the All Southwest Conference of 1967, Capitan in 1968, as well as 2nd team All Southwest Conference of 1968. Vernon worked diligently as a Texas educator from 1976-2000 including teacher, coach, and assistant principal, principal, assistant Superintendent, as well as Superintendent of Schools.
Vernon enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially Red Raider Basketball and Baseball. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends at Gaines County Golf course and the quality time it provided with his son Steven. Vernon enjoyed a fellowship of brothers and as a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Texas Epsilon Chapter of Texas Tech where he was also an advisor from 2001-2012.
Vernon is survived by his wife Connie of 46 years, son Steven, sister Ellen (Robert) of Bethany OK, brother Ronnie (Judy) of Branson MO, and Brother Roy of Elgin OK.
The Family would like to thank the nurses of Covenant CICU, the staff at Encompass Home Health, and Dr. Randy Rozean and staff at Family First Healthcare. In lieu of flowers donations to the Phi Delta Theta Education Program are recommended.
Open visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday December the 8th 2021 from 5-7pm and Services will be held Thursday December the 9th 2021 10:00am at Indiana Baptist Church.
