Virgil Ray Newton

Virgil Ray Newton, age 71, passed away with family by his side on Thursday August 24, 2023, at his residence in Lubbock, TX. He was born December 18, 1951, in Carlsbad, NM. He married his best friend, Ruby Ann, November 15, 1985. He worked hard for his family as a machinist, owning his own business, and in the oil industry most of his adult life, until he retired in 2015. In retirement, he enjoyed taking road trips to visit his children and grandchildren. Family was his life. His hobby was giving others a hard time; it was his love language. The more he kidded with you, the more you knew he loved you.

He was preceded in death by his father Herbert Newton and mother Margaret Hand.

He is survived by his best friend Ruby Ann Newton; his children Samantha Merrell (Christian) of Canton, TX; Roy Rocha, Jr (Belinda) of Centennial, CO; Marcus Rocha (April) of Katy, TX; Shelley Newton of Canton, TX; Thomas Rocha (Jessica) of Cypress, TX; 14 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, whom he loved all dearly.

He was also survived by his brother Jack Newton (nephews Jayson, Phillip, and Jerod), sister Debbie Elliston (nephew Kevin and niece Kahla). His brotherly bond was strong; he enjoyed pestering his younger siblings until the very end.

His family will celebrate his life on Saturday September 9, 2023.
