

Wayne Elbert McCray, age 81, of Lubbock, Texas passed from this life into Eternal Life with Jesus on Sunday, January 22, 2023. He was born on a farm near Pawnee, Oklahoma on March 9, 1941, to Mr. Alva and Gladys McCray.
He was a devoted Christian who surrendered his life to Christ at the age of eight with his older brother, father, uncle, and two aunts at a revival meeting in Blackburn, OKlahoma in 1949. Wayne was a positive person who loved life, his family, his church friends at Southcrest, and playing golf.
He would serve thirty-seven years as a public school science teacher in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Wayne earned a Bachelor of Science from University of Central Oklahoma and Master's degree in Science Education from Oklahoma State. He spent the majority of his life as an educator in Clovis, NM teaching high school chemistry and physics.
Wayne was a people person who would always greet a visitor or strike up a conversation with someone in passing. He was always providing advice and leadership to others who were in need. He was a faithful servant of the Lord who put to use his spiritual gifts of service, giving, and teaching for God’s glory. Most importantly, Wayne loved his Savior and his family.
Wayne is survived by the love of his life for the past 61 years, Ruth H. McCray, of the home; his son Steven McCray and wife Lisa of San Antonio, Texas and his daughter Mary McCray of Lubbock, Texas. He has been blessed to have five grandchildren; Colin McCray, Cale McCray, Claire McCray (Steven and Lisa) and Dillon Highfill and Edward Earnest (Mary) and four precious great grandchildren; Marlee McCray, Nova McCray, Liam McCray, and Brekin McCray; one older brother Charles McCray and three younger sisters Vicki Caldwell, Janice Skidgel, and Kathy Berschauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Gladys.
A memorial service for Wayne will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407.
