Benjamin Franklin Blackwell III

Born in Glade Spring, Virginia, October 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. Blackwell, Jr. and Dorothy Clark Blackwell. He was a retired project manager with Lynchburg Steel and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Virginia Tech and served with the Corps of Cadets and he loved Virginia Tech football. He was an avid student of history and also enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by three children, Allyson Haga and her husband Bruce, Adrienne Phipps, Benjamin F. Blackwell, IV; one step son, Howard Keith Hagy; one sister, Nancy Duncan and her husband John; two grandchildren, Amber Phipps and Amanda Phipps; four step grandchildren, Nicholas Hagy, Rebecca Hagy, Emily Hagy and Jessica Hagy; one step great grandchild, Ezra Kit Hagy.

In addition to his parents and wife, Peggy, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Meredith Elizabeth Haga and one-step daughter, Julie Lynn Beaddles.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Everett Berryman officiating.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge his caregivers, Marian Haynes, Demetrius Thompson, Cathy Robinson, Tiffany Garland-Reeves, Darlene Garland, Catherine Pankey and Shaniqua Franklin for the wonderful and loving care they provided.
