He was born in Amity, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1937, to the late Aaron and Grace Sanders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Catherine Arizona Sanders, who raised him like her own son; a sister, Evelyn Houston and a brother, Duane Sanders.
Carl retired from Ball Glass Corporation, was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church and served his country in the National Guard. He was also a farmer, accomplished builder and carpenter, electrician, welder, and fireman in Pennsylvania. In 1986, Carl and his wife Ellen moved to Lynchburg, and operated Billy Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant. He was a born-again Christian, wonderful husband, dedicated, loving and supportive father, grandfather, great grandfather and loved God and his country. He was an avid outdoorsman and farming was his passion.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Ellen Sanders; daughter, Rebecca Sanders; son, Billy Joe Sanders; 3 sisters, June Reihner, Audrey Barnes, and Kitty Phillips; a granddaughter, Sarah Lacy and husband Nathan as well as 3 great grandchildren, Axton Ray Lacy, Colton Manaen Lacy, and Lexington Elaina Lacy.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Sedalia Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am – 12:45 pm at the church prior to the service.
