
Charles Richard Thompson, 90, of Lynchburg, died, Friday, July 15, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of Hazel Greer Thompson and the late Annie Bell Thompson. Born November 15, 1920, in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Thomas Richard Thompson and the late Norma Caldwell Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a retired machinist for Craddock –Terry Corporation and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Concord, VA. He also served our country in the US Army during World War II.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by two brothers, Julian R. Thompson and Edwin S. Thompson and two sisters, Eva T. Miller and Mildred T. Thompson.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Thompson is survived by one step-son, Michael L. Greer and his wife Vicki of Madison Heights, one step-daughter, Diane Greer Baker and her husband Tony of Winterville, NC; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two devoted nieces and one devoted nephew.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dan Dibble officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends, 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
