Obituary of Christopher Scott Irvine
Christopher Scott Irvine, 48, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 10, 2021 due to the devastating virus that is COVID-19. Chris was born August 28, 1972 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He grew up across the bridge in Madison Heights, coming back over to attend Virginia Episcopal School where he graduated in 1990. Chris then went onto Mary Washington College where he received his Bachelors of Arts in English. He explored the world, living different places but ultimately returning to Lynchburg in his late thirties where he spent over a decade at Genworth. While working there, he earned his MBA from Averett University. Chris played many roles—husband, brother, son, cousin, friend, tight-head prop—but his greatest role of all didn’t come until later in life. At 42, Chris became a father. He and his wife, Carly, welcomed Margaux Maye into the world. She is his single greatest achievement. Though Chris wasn’t much for sitting around and watching the game, he was about helping you tile your backsplash at 2am or changing out your hot water heater on Christmas Eve so your wife could take a warm shower. His love language was undeniably Acts of Service, and after 20 years of jobs, he finally found his calling: Construction Manager at Habitat for Humanity. Chris began to come home with stories about and visions for creating a “Greater Lynchburg” one home at a time. With notebooks by his bed filled with ideas and measurements for affordable housing developments, Chris busied himself devising ways to find higher quality materials at lower costs. Chris truly took pride in his work—cherishing the relationships he established with colleagues, volunteers, and homeowners alike. Chris was eager to get to the job site each morning and often went back with Margaux before bed “just to check.” Chris was the first born child of Larry and Sue Irvine of Madison Heights, Virginia. He was a loving brother to his two sisters, Shannon (Michael Floyd) and Kenzie (Jason Roberge). Chris was always first in line to celebrate his nephew, Gabriel, whether it was jumping into a Chewbacca suit or buying a giant Batman to keep the bad guys away. Whether you knew him as June, Daddy, Cowboy, Chris, or simply The Handy Man on Handy Street, his absence will be felt greatly. We will be having a virtual celebration for Chris. Stay safe, stay home. Please share any memory or short video story to include in the celebration. Email any submissions to [email protected] by January 26th and watch along on February 7th. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity. http://lynchburghabitat.org/donate
