Born September 17, 1941 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Odie Thornton Hargis and Lelia Idernius Warren Hargis. He was also preceded in death by several siblings and a stepson, Bob Moore, Jr. Cleo retired from G.E. and after retirement, he and Barbara owned several other businesses including a ceramics business, trucking company, and a Bed & Breakfast. He was a member of several churches throughout his lifetime, and recently enjoyed fellowship at Calvary Baptist Church in Concord.
In addition to his wife, Cleo is survived by sons Tim Hargis, Nathan Hargis, and C.T. Hargis, Jr., and stepdaughter Denise Guthrie (Glenn). He loved his grandchildren Justin Hargis, Bobbi Jo Moore (Dan), Sam Moore (Amanda), Brandy Knabb (Matt) and Zachary King (Gwen). Great grandchildren Shawn Moore, Reagan and Tucker Knabb brought him many smiles and much joy. He is also survived by dear and faithful friends Lloyd and Betsy Ayers.
Cleo enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music, fishing and being Captain of his many boats, making apple butter & Brunswick stew, smoking bbq, gardening, riding in the mountains, and his many flowers planted at home. He especially enjoyed “feeding the people” and hosted many gatherings with friends and family.
A funeral service, to celebrate Cleo’s life, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
