

Born in Lynchburg, he is the son of the late Peronneau Brown Robertson and the late Hattie Ring Robertson.
Upon finishing E.C.Glass High School in 1958, Darrell was already in the Marine Corps. Reserve and was transferred to Paris Island, S.C. After boot camp, he was sent to Washington, D.C. where he was in the Ceremonial Guards Company at Camp David. This was during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home, he joined the Lynchburg Police Department where he retired after 28 years of service. While at the Police Department, he attended the Central Virginia Community College graduating Suma Cum Laude and he took additional classes at Lynchburg College. He was a founding member and served as Secretary of The Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge# 1727, Oddfellows Goode Lodge #128 and a life member of American Legion Post 16. He was a member of Southview United Methodist Church, West Lynchburg Baptist Church and Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Survivors include "the love of his life" for 35 years, Mary Ellen; two sons, Chris D. Robertson of Raleigh, N.C. and Troy M. Robertson (Laurie) of Lynchburg; a step daughter, Kathy L. Straw (Gary) of Forest; six grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Robertson of Lynchburg, Julie and Jonny Robertson of Raleigh, N.C., Amanda S. Smith (Shane) and Gary Lee Straw (Nicole) of Lynchburg; a great granddaughter, Savannah Smith and four step brothers, Peronneau B. Robertson, Jr. (Pam), Richard Robertson (Cathy), Bennie Robertson (Pam) and Michael Robertson (Teresa).
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Reverend Doctor J. Monty Fox, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
