

Born in Appomattox County, November 14, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Ira Phelps, Sr. and Edla Eagle Phelps. She was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 32 years of service and was a member of Campbell Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy East and Joan Cheatham; two sisters, Estelle Reed and Kate Justis and two brothers Murphy Phelps and Ira B. Phelps, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Charles “Dave” Davis Nash and his wife Fredda and one daughter, Claudia Campbell and her husband Howard all of Lynchburg; two brothers, Twyman Phelps and his wife Mary of Appomattox and Rice Phelps and his wife Faye of Madison Heights; one sister, Belle Lindsey of Lynchburg; one son-in-law, Herman P. Cheatham, Jr.; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one special great grandson, Gary Lee Hicks and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Reed Ness officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
