

“Hop”
On Sunday, July 29, 2012 at his home with his family by his side, Hop Cassidy went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior.
Born May 5, 1928 in Roanoke, Virginia he was the son of the late Howard Cassidy and the late Georgia Gilliam Matthews, and the stepson of Robert Matthews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Cassidy Loving and her husband, Dan, and also his mother and father in law Minnie and Ernest Williams, Sr. and a brother in law Ernest Williams, Jr.
Hop is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy Williams Cassidy, his son Mike Cassidy and wife Wendy, two daughters Lynn Maddox and husband Dale and Carole Cassidy Cross.
He was a proud Papa to ten grandchildren: Jenny Levacy and husband, Tim, Chris Clay, Lindsay Clay, Joseph Cross and fiancé Dudley Strosnider, Matt Thompson and fiancé Traci Taylor, Amy Maddox, Lauren Maddox, and Jacob, Zach and Matthew Cassidy and six great-grandchildren; Michael Levacy, Tru, Catera and Justice Haskins, Gavin Thompson and Natalie Davis.
He is also survived by nephews, Vic Loving (Sue), Daryl Loving (Barbara); a niece, Sharon Loving (Lorrie), and a sister in law Mina Williams.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army-Air Force, stationed in Germany. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 35 years of service.
Hop loved spending time with his family and spent long summer days in his garden as he had done for many, many years, only to share all of his produce with family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Timberlake Christian Church, conducted by Dr. Robert Mooty. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #16.
The family will receive friends today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 6-8 p.m.
