Born on March 31, 1951 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Kermit Garrett Sr. and Betty Mae Cyrus Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers; Maynard Garrett and Kermit Garrett Jr. “Junior”; one sister, Barbara Garrett Snow; and a grandson, Danny Lee Caldwell III.
She was a dedicated employee of Centra Health for over 29 years where she was the Director of Respiratory Health and helped establish the Centra Sleep Disorders Center. Her career and helping people was her life outside of the devotion to her family. She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world. She will be very truly missed by many.
She is survived by her sons; Dale Caldwell (Stephanie Bays) and Danny Caldwell; daughter-in-law, Tracy Durr Devillier; grandchildren, Alexandria Caldwell Arthur (Tyler Arthur), Karia-Yvonne Caldwell (Keith Hancock), Camryn Caldwell (Austin Curd), Cassidy Caldwell Cannon (Tyler Cannon), Kendall J. Caldwell; brother, Ralph Garrett (Judy Garrett); sister, Christine Evans; great grandson, Easton-Phillip Arthur; three very special lifelong friends, Luna Laverne Ashwell, Bonnie Burley Crews and Wanda Burley; and lots of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Elks at Spring Oaks and Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care and devotion shown to Iris up until the very end. Iris had a special relationship with her nurses and the staff, and for that we are grateful.
We ask for any of her employees or coworkers from the hospital who are able, to come and celebrate her life’s greatest moments and memories with us. We are grateful for all of the lives that she touched over the years and all of the people that she helped.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Tyreeanna Chapel, 5215 Tyreeanna Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24504, officiated by Rev. Wayne Lanham. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
