

Born August 10, 1929 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William H. Almond, Sr. and the late Carrie Brooks Almond and was also preceded in death by a brother, William “Hounddog” Almond, Jr.; a sister, Earlene Cooper, and a sister-in-law, Catherine Almond. Mr. Almond worked countless years at Meade Corp. and later retired from Rock-Tenn Corp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a loyal member of Fairview Christian Church all his life, as well as a member of the Christian Mens Fellowship.
Mr. Almond leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-three years, Delores Almond; three children, Michael Almond, Vickie Goodman, and Brad Almond (Stacie); five grandchildren, Travis Goodman (Krista), Ryan Schneider (Jon), Kelsey Almond, Courtney Almond, and Michael S. Almond; his great grandchildren, Zachary, Julianna, Matthew, and Ava and two more to be born in 2015. He is also survived by his brother, Fred Almond; sister, Catherine St. John (Bobby); a special aunt, Madeline Tyree and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mr. Almond’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Fairview Christian Church Chapel with Minister Jean Reynolds officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Closet at Fairview Christian Church or to Hospice.
