Obituary of James "Jim" Dabney Ore Sr.
James “Jim” Dabney Ore, Sr., 87, of Evington, passed away on Thursday, February 07, 2019 at Runk and Pratt. He was the loving husband of the late Irma Parker Ore. Born on October 9, 1931 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Charles Henry Ore, Sr. and the late Nellie Jane Johnson Ore. Jim served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Burlington in Altavista, and enjoyed talking to his family daily and mowing grass. He was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church and loved reading his bible and serving in the church. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Henry Ore, Jr. and two sisters, Lucy Bailey and his twin sister, Betty Jackson. Jim is survived by his children, JD Ore and wife Angelus, Ginger McAlister and husband Ricky, Cindi Cole and husband Tommy, and Terry Ore; six grandchildren, Chris Ore and wife Shannon, Bryan McAlister, Kyle Cole and wife Dana, Cody Cole and wife Laura, Faith Dudley and husband Steve, and Kelli Arrington and husband David; six great-grandchildren, Christina Burch, Vaughan Ore, Katherine Ore, Olivia Arrington, Justin Arrington, and Grayson Cole; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Schooler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
