

Mrs. Ellison is preceded in death by her father, Thomas McLaughlin, and mother, Evelyn Johnson McLaughlin Frappier. She graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1949, and later attended Lynchburg College. She married in June of 1952, and was a member of the Navy Officers Wives Club. Buzz Ellison's plane was shot down in Vietnam in March of 1967, and his status became MIA/POW. His remains still have not been recovered by the Navy. Mrs. Ellison became a founding member of the League of Families, an organization dedicated to the welfare and accountability of our missing servicemen and women. She was also actively involved in her community, and was a member of the Fort Hill Women's Club and the Lynchburg Women's Club, where she served as corresponding secretary. She was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, and a life-long member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. Most importantly, she was a loving and much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Ellison is survived by four children: Martha Ayers and husband Lewis, of Lynchburg; Elizabeth Hlasnicek and husband Paul, of Chesapeake; John Ellison and companion Kim Roberson, of Roanoke; and Andrew Ellison and wife Connie, of Elon. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: James Mintor, Jacob Mintor, Joseph Ayers, Jeffrey Ayers, Amanda Ayers, Annie Ellison, Emily Ellison, Nick Palford, John-Paul Hlasnicek, Zachery Hlasnicek, Christina Hlasnicek, Jean Ellison, and James Ellison, and three great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, November 10, 2014, at the Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Dr. Robert Putt officiating. Interment will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at the Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
