
Jean Gallier Purvis, 74, of Lynchburg, died, Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Hospice House. She was the wife of 53 years to Soule Burnice Purvis. Born January 5, 1938, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar F. Gallier and the late Sarah Baldwin Gallier.
Jean was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by three children, Mike Purvis of Lynchburg, Kathy Tomlin and her husband Alan, Sr. of Campbell County and Steve Purvis of Lynchburg; one brother, Oscar Gallier “Junior” and his wife Lydia of Amherst; three grandchildren, Alan Tomlin, Jr. and his wife Catherine, Michael Purvis, Jr. and his wife Aime and Christopher Tomlin; one great-grandchild, Zoee Purvis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted, 10:00a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Virginia Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Jim Moon.
The family will receive friends, 6-7:30 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Steve Purvis.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Hospice House staff and to Donna Moore for their loving care towards Mrs. Purvis.
