Joyce Almond Brown went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2023. She was born to the late Surpell Morgan Almond and Jennie Mitchell Almond on Nov. 6, 1937. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Robert Edward Brown, her brother, Reginald Almond, her sister, Linda Quillen, and her son-in-law, Eric Mariner.
Following high school, she graduated from Phillips Business College and began working as a bank teller for Central Fidelity Bank for 37 years. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lovingston as long as she was able to attend.
She is survived by the following family members whom she deeply loved, her daughter, Jennifer Mariner, her son, Barry Brown, her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and William Dickerson, her sister-in-law, Mary Daniel Brown, her grandsons, Van Mariner (Kayla) of Roanoke, Zach Mariner (Mikaela) of Avon, CT, and Kyle Mariner (fiancée Jade Reneau) of Roanoke. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Judah Pippin Mariner, and her great-grandson, Asher Eric Mariner, and other family members and devoted friends.
She took wonderful care of her children and grandchildren, attending all their sporting events, performances, and special activities. She was her grandsons’ biggest fan.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Runk & Pratt, Leesville Rd., where she resided the last several months and the staff of Seven Hills Hospice.
A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston with Pastor Jeremy Humphrey officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Kedron Baptist Church Cemetery.
