Joyce Stone Pasquale

Joyce Stone Pasquale, 82, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2012 in Westlake Corner, Virginia. According to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place in the spring in the Village of Mexico (New York) Cemetery.

Joyce was born in Pulaski, New York on July 30, 1929, a daughter of Edgar Herbert Stone and Avon Adams Stone Guyette. Her beloved step-father was Leo Guyette.

A 1946 graduate of Mexico Academy and Central School, Joyce married Clifford W. Pasquale on August 16, 1952 at the United Methodist Church, Mexico, NY. Clifford, a vocal music teacher for 30 years at Mexico Academy and Central School, passed away on November 22, 1982.

Joyce was employed at the Mexico Movie Theatre and later returned to her alma mater, Mexico Academy and Central School, where she worked as a secretary in the Main and Guidance Offices until the time of her retirement. She was an accomplished pianist and sang in the United Methodist and First Presbyterian Church Choirs in Mexico. She was also a member of the Oswego (NY) Duplicate Bridge Club for many years. During World War II, she assisted her mother who became noted for the thousands of letters of correspondence sent to encourage service men and women who were fighting overseas.

Upon her retirement to Lynchburg, Virginia, Joyce worked as a receptionist in the Junior Achievement office. She also became an avid flower gardener, eliciting many comments by passersby on the garden in front of her Nelson Drive home.

Joyce is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Lynne Pasquale, Adams, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Joseph Furtado, Las Vegas, Nevada; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carolyn Pasquale, California; and her granddaughter, Sierra Pasquale, New York, NY. She was predeceased by her brother, Edgar Stone, Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia.
