On Thursday evening, September 13, 2012, God opened his loving arms and took his child, Louise Holland Epperson, to her heavenly home. She was born February 6, 1917 in Lynchburg, the daughter of the late John Daniel Holland and DeWitte Bomar Holland.
Louise was the wife of the late John Douglas Epperson for 60 years and was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Meagan Marie Yopp.
Louise graduated from E.C. Glass High School, Class of 1935. She was Secretary and Office Manager for Thornhill Sales Company, retiring after 30 years of service.
Her family roots were in College Hill Baptist Church where she served as deaconess. Her primary focus in life has always been her church and her family.
Louise is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Roark (John) of Lynchburg and a son, Dan D. Epperson (Judith) of Forest; Two devoted sisters, June Fay Wooding of Painesville, Ohio and Nancy H. Davidson of Lynchburg; Eight Grandchildren, Holly L. Roark, Robin D. Roark, John“Chip”E. Roark, III (Jenny), Amy R. Donahue (Pat), Carrie R. Fenn (Tim), Dan Epperson, Jr. (Cory), Laurie Epperson, Kevin Frady (Mitzi); Sixteen Great-Grandchildren and four Great-Great Grandchildren.
Louise loved fishing, “Rook”, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Jeopardy. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and we delighted in the many things she continued to remember as our family historian and just being our “Granny Ese.”
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted by Rev. Andrew Grose at Whitten Timberlake Chapel on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 1pm. A visitation will immediately follow the service and at the interment at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family wishes to offer fondest appreciation to the Summitt Health and Rehab for the kind and loving care that they provided over the past four years. Memorial contributions may be made to College Hill Baptist Church.
