

She was born in the family home on October 17, 1923 as the youngest daughter of Andrew Hewitt and Felissie Mae Hughes. Marie grew up in the Cotton Mill Hill neighborhood and lived there most of her life where she was a lifetime and faithful member of Southview United Methodist Church, now known as Christ’s Community Fellowship. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1943 and had a career in retail sales. She was also an avid photographer, crafter, gardener, singer, and traveler well known for her quick wit, sharp mind, and keen sense of humor. Marie relished the joys of life and her church, family, and friends, and spent her life making new friends and helping others.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fletcher and Earl Hughes, and sisters Mary (Louise) Penny and Mildred (Susie) Dooley.
She is survived by her nieces, Glenda Mullins and Sharon Siercks, two great-nieces and one great-nephew, and their family members, as well as numerous friends.
Marie’s funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Christ’s Community Fellowship, with Pastor Philip Showers officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10 am.
