

Marvin James Caldwell, a loving father, also known as “Papa” and “Great Pop”, 84, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Amherst on June 29, 1932 to the late Albert Clyde and Lily Thomas Caldwell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Jordan Caldwell as well as his sisters, Lottie Caldwell, who passed away as a toddler and Lois Lambert; brothers, Hubert, who passed away as a teenager, Richard and Ray Caldwell; and his son-in-law David H. Maddox, Sr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his children, who he was always there for to love and support with great patience - Gail Maddox, Judy Caldwell and Darryl E. Caldwell and wife Debbie, his grandchildren David H. Maddox, Jr and wife, Terry, Melissa M. Spence and husband Jeff, Jeremy H. Caldwell and wife Andrea, James F. Lee, Jr. and Josh A. Lee and fiancé Kara Sidoti, his great grandchildren Trace and Charlie Maddox and Kimber and Kortlyn Spence. He also leaves his sister Gracie Cumbie.
He was a devoted member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Lynchburg Foundry after 28 years of service.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. David M. Smith and his staff for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to our Daddy. We would also like to express our gratitude to his home nurses Sharon, Sarah and Rebecca.
Nearly every weekend Daddy could be found with his family boating, skiing and having cookouts at Leesville Lake. Many vacations were spent with extended family and friends camping at Buggs Island. Later in life he enjoyed riding his trike on the Parkway and to various Blue Grass Festivals.
The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence. A celebration of Daddy’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, 20348 Leesville Road, Lynchburg, VA. with the Reverend William Burleigh officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Daddy’s name to Marsh Memorial United Memorial Church or Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
