

Melva was born May 24, 1921 in McAlpin, West Virginia to the late William Harvey Stone and Annie Gibson Stone. She was married to the late Richard Lee Martin for 37 years.
Melva was an active member of Fieldale Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was also a dedicated member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 42 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard A. Campbell; sisters, Arlene Pullum, Lois Wilson, Geneva Tucker, infant sister, Louise Stone; brothers, Eugene Stone and Milford Stone.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Jerleen Jennings and husband Leroy; her grand-daughter, Lisa B. Rogers; sister, Gertrude Stone; brother, Harvey Cephus Stone; sister-in-law, Lois B. Stone, as well as numerous family members and friends.
Melva was an energetic and industrious woman and her life exemplified her Christian faith in the love, care and compassion she showed to others. She truly made the world a nicer, sweeter and more gentle place for all who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Carrington for their love, care, and attention during the last few months.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virginia. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, Virginia where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Virginia.
