

Phyllis "Mawmaw" Cyrus Harvey, 75, of Appomattox, died, Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital. Born February 15, 1938, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Bennie P. Cyrus and the late Thelma Stinnett Cyrus.
Phyllis was a retired case worker for the Virginia Department of Human Services and a member of Mountain View Church of God. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her passions in life were God, family, genealogies and music.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, John R. Cyrus and her sister, Jewel Litchford Weeks.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Vanessa “Missy” Harvey of Appomattox; her son, Travis “Pate” Harvey, also of Appomattox; two sisters, Doris Mitchell of Altavista and Jean C. Dalton and her husband Robert of Spout Spring; five grandchildren, Aimee Michelle Harvey, Amber Dawn Harvey, John Christopher Cruise and his wife Brandy, Jesse Russell Cruise and his wife Patience and Joshua Thomas Harvey and his special friend Diana Spangler; four great-grandchildren, Brody, Lexi, Grayson and Camden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 p.m.., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Desi Justis officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends, 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Phyllis Harvey.
