Robert Lavender Mitchell

Robert L. Mitchell, 90, of The Summit Health & Rehabilitation Center, Lynchburg and formerly of Rustburg passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of 71 years to Doris Gowen Mitchell. Born July 18, 1927, in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Robert E. Mitchell and the late Jemima C. Mitchell.

Robert was a life-long member of Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church. He was U.S. Army Veteran and a retired business owner.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Mitchell and one sister, Ethel Mitchell.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by one son, Randy Mitchell of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Jeff Mitchell and his wife Sarah of Richmond and Tammy Mitchell Gilbert and her husband Greg of Forest; and two great grandchildren, Allyson and Kristen.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018, at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Christy Mitchell officiating.

There will be no visitation hours at the funeral home, yet the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church, 1090 Mollie’s Creek Rd., Gladys, VA 24554.
