

Born January 31, 1920 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William Mayo and Cora Gowen Davis and was also preceded in death by Barbara Harlow, the fiancée of Samuel Davis, Jr. He retired from Griffin Pipe Company after thirty years of service and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Mr. Davis is survived by three sons, Samuel W. Davis, Jr. of Madison Heights, William M. Davis and wife Linda, and James E. Davis, all of Monroe; a daughter, Barbara D. Neblett and husband John of Madison Heights; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Earl F. Clarkson, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery in Colleen.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson Senior Center.
