I cannot believe Victor has been gone two years. He made a difference in my life in a myriad of ways. He seemed to never have a bad day and brought joy to us all. I know it is not possible to be perfect and never show burdens, but Victor sure tried. If Martha or his children see this, may you know he was a gift. I know he is enjoying Heaven! ♥️

Victor made it possible for me to become a librarian.  Bedford County Public Schools were bringing courses from Longwood University for Library Media Specialist certification.  The  courses were filled and started but one person dropped out.  Victor allowed me to fill the on empty position which  propelled me into a fulfilling career as a library media specialist.  I will be forever grateful to him for this.

Sorry to hear of Victor's passing. I wish we had kept better in touch. I sure miss our reunions. Wish I wasn't so far away.  Keeping you in my prayers.

Victor was a main figure in my life.  If it wasn't for him hiring me for Bedford County Public Schools, I wouldn't have met my wife and wouldn't have my son.  He will be missed.

In my time at Randolph College, Victor quickly became a cherished colleague through his expertise, good nature,  and generosity of spirit. He had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel valued, and his presence brought light and lightness.  I never walked away from Victor without a smile. 

My thoughts are with his family and with the many people whose lives were made better by knowing him. Victor will be truly missed.

It has taken me some time to find the words to express how much we all loved Victor. I worked with him for 8 years at Randolph College and he never met a stranger. He was warm, inviting, non-judging, funny, intelligent, and a true friend. I worked on several projects with him, and he always had wonderful ideas. The students adored him and he always made every person he came into contact with feel that he was there to serve them and make it fun at the same time. 

A few years ago, I left and went into Real Estate. Victor was so kind to call me up and say that he wanted me to be the one to help him find a new house. It was an amazing experience and we both had so much fun finding the right one for him and his beautiful dogs. 

This news was shocking to everyone. He will always be cherished in my memories and I will replay many of those through my head and heart from this day forward. I miss you so much Victor!  Peace be with you and all those who love you.

I had the opportunity to work with Victor over the past few years along some other colleagues from Higher Ed institutions from across the state.  Victor was always kind, thoughtful and witty. He continuously brought smiles to the faces of everyone in our group with his artful communication skills and humor. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family.   

I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Victor as an interpreter for those who were deaf at Thomas Road Baptist Church for several years.  He was such an up-beat person, smiling, telling jokes and just having fun, making us laugh.  He was very smart, and worked so hard at whatever he was doing.  He will be missed.  I will be praying for comfort for those who love him.

I only had a few brief interactions with Victor, but each and every one was a charming, insightful conversation full of joy. Sending Victor's family healing thoughts and happy memories.

Victor was a source of joy, puns, laughter and knowledge shared freely. One of my favorite memories was a recipe, I think it was shortbread, shared with an email of IT tips. You are missed dearly.

Victor was one of few people I met at Liberty University who were fluent in ASL before I became one of first deaf students and I stayed at his house the first year. I learned many things including jokes from him.  : ) His family is in my prayer.

I will never forget the kindness Victor showed my mom throughout her time as a member of the Randolph IT team, but especially while she was battling cancer.  Thank you Victor. 

Victor was both a colleague and a friend.  I had barely been at Randolph College a year when I took a spill and broke my arm. Driving was a challenge, and Victor offered to drive me over to Poplar Forest one evening to see a play written by another Randolph staff member.  After that, Victor and I went to the movies together often (before the pandemic hit) and frequently ate together in the dining hall. Victor and I worked together on many projects on campus. He was a great collaborator, patient, kind, and supportive, even though, needless to say, his technological know-how far exceeded my own. Victor’s sense of humor was quirky, and he had a quick wit that few could compete with. He was generous and caring, and he loved the College and his work deeply. I will miss him…

Victor was a lovely soul. He was always ready to lend a hand to any venture, had a great repertoire of ties and silly jokes, took many beautiful photos of our campus over the years, and didn't make you feel like a fool when you asked IT questions. He was a member of the Sustainability Council at Randolph; he was invested in our climate commitments, and helped make our IT department greener and efficient. He wore his Earth Day t-shirts proudly. I will remember him for the kind, generous, animal-loving, ingenious person that I always found him to be. May he rest in peace and light.


I count myself lucky to have been the recipient of Victor's funny emails, and his generosity. I will miss seeing him hoverboard around the Randolph College campus. This is truly a sad loss for the community.

My sincerest condolences to Victor's family, friends, and everyone that was fortunate enough to have their lives cross paths with him. His quick wit and humor was always prevalent and he will be sorely missed. 

I wish I was able to tell Mr. Gosnell how much I appreciate him as he impacted my life in such a positive way. I did not realize how lucky I was then at 7 years old when I was his student in 1992 at Otter River. Victor was consistent in telling me how smart I was and that I should always chase my dreams regardless of my disability. Victor spent the next three years as my special needs teacher ensuring not only I get decent grades, but to excel at everything. On top of excelling in school, he taught me how to deal with challenges I faced. Every time I got frustrated with school or relationships, Victor managed to make me laugh and forget trivial things.  He also went way beyond his responsibilities in helping me and other deaf students. One example: Victor took time aside to teach sign language to all grade levels at Otter River so that they could communicate with me and two other deaf students. 

Victor was one of my biggest supporters and was constantly challenging me to go further in my education, whether it was to get a better grade or to get a perfect score. One of those times, he made a bet with me – if I achieved the goal he set for me, he was going to swallow a live goldfish. I achieved the goal, Victor swallowed the live goldfish and that memory stuck with me. 

In 2020 I found Victor’s contact information on LinkedIn, emailed him and shared that memory. He confessed that it was not really a goldfish and it was a sliver of carrot, shaped in a goldfish. He suggested that I try the same trick on my young children. Victor also wanted to know how I was doing and genuinely cared even though I was no longer his student. He was that type of person, who cared about others and was passionate in making all the kids believe that they can be anything they want to be as long as they worked hard for it. 

I will never forget Victor. I will someday tell my kids about him as he made such a positive impact on my life. My prayers are with Victor and his family.


He was a  great Sign Language teacher! He will definitely be missed 

I knew Victor mainly through employment and other Bedford County Public Schools.  He was the head of technology and gave me the opportunity to take courses to become a library media specialist through Longwood College.  It was a very positive step in my career and for which I was most thankful. He was over Library Media Specialists in the county and we all looked forward to countywide meetings because of his carefree and informative meetings.  It is with sadness that I hear of his death and send condolences and prayers to his family.  

Victor was a friend and colleague towards the end of my career as a library media specialist in Bedford County. I am saddened to learn of his passing. He was not a librarian but supervising the school librarians was one of his duties so he made it his job to let us teach him about our job. I had a lot of respect for Victor.

Victor went to  our church many years ago. He was always so funny and kind. I am saddened to hear of his passing. A very sweet and funny guy. My condolences to his family. 

I knew Victor  for a few years and I will miss him.  He was so charming, witty, thoughtful and kind.  Deepest condolences to his children and grandchildren. 

He truly was one in a million...He made everyone feel special. He will truly be missed by so so many.

What a dear dear man!  I fondly recall the first time he led a meeting of the Bedford County library media specialists.  He understood that we needed to discuss common issues and concerns so he gave us time to talk….and gripe!  Then he asked us to each name one thing that we were thankful for….and this was not Thanksgiving.  He wanted us to focus on the positive.  I loved his sense of humor!  When we mentioned a need he told us he would look into it and he did.  And he got back to us in a very timely manner.   I wish everyone could have a supervisor like Victor - so kind, helpful, and genuinely concerned about people.  He was truly our advocate and we loved him.  He lived his Christian faith in a very special way.  Susan Layne

I couldn't believe it when I heard it.  

His was a familiar face that I looked forward to seeing anytime I was visiting campus.  He introduced himself and learned my name early on and I was grateful that he took the time.  As a student, I remember walking through campus lost in my thoughts and anxiety, and Victor would always greet me and ask how I was doing, maybe tell me a joke.  I always left feeling a little better.  It seemed like he made everyone his friend.

Victor truly was/is a lesson in how a little kindness can go so far in impacting the lives of others for the better.  I'm grateful our paths crossed and saddened by his passing. 

 Victor was a gifted instructor, a committed friend, and an exceptional colleague in every way. He never made you feel stupid or inadequate when you asked a technology question. One thing I never heard him say was, "No, we can't do that," or "There is no solution." He always found an answer to any question and was a great problem solver.

I will miss his silly ties, his great jokes and puns, and his loyalty to his friends and co-workers. Victor personified all the great things about our Randolph community.

As a member of the Randolph College board of trustees, I looked forward at every board meeting to seeing Victor:  his sense of humor, his goofy ties, his breadth of skills, and -- more than anything -- his generosity and commitment to the Randolph community.  When the pandemic upended classes in March 2020, Victor worked to ensure that students who needed them had hotspots and laptops at home, so that they could continue their studies remotely.  He supported faculty learning to teach in a radically changed environment.  In every way, he enhanced the Randolph College community.  I will miss him tremendously.  

Victor believed in me. He encouraged me every single day. He was very accommodating of the more “difficult” parts of my personality. I’ve been successful because Victor gave me the means and opportunities to succeed, and ALWAYS made me feel like I could. He knew just the right amount to push me, and knew better than I did when I was pushing myself too hard. He always had an interest in whatever new thing I was learning on any given day. He always had my back. Listening to other people complain about their bosses always made me feel lucky because Victor was truly a good man to work for.

Victor was the last boss I had in my career in education and he was the best. He was knowledgeable, approachable, and well suited to helping teachers master newly required technology skills. Victor was one of those individuals in one’s life you wish you had spent more time with.

I remember how supportive Victor was of me as a library media specialist in Bedford County.  He gave sound advice and helped with technology troubles.  I saw him in the community using his sign language skills at theater performances and he personally taught  me  signs for use at my school when I contacted him years later.  I also recall running into him as he supported Small Business Saturday one year as he and a group shopped locally in their “ugly sweaters”.  So helpful, so caring and will be so missed. Peace to you, Victor.

Victor was always there to lend a hand. I was thankful for the help I received as a student. I lost all my work on my senior project, he showed me how to find it. Sad to hear of his passing.

Grateful to have known such a wonderful soul. Always kind, always light-hearted, always helpful. 

The most caring manager I have ever had the pleasure to serve! Will miss you much ~V!

Victor was helpful, kind, and terribly funny. He was brilliant at teaching technology to others.  I could not have finished my senior thesis without his help, which he provided out of kindness (and maybe a little pity). He was the kind of person that you like as soon as you meet, and I miss him already.
