On March 22, 2011 we celebrated the rebirth of Walter Ronald Merciez into the Kingdom of Heaven. We thank the Lord for this wonderful man born into his earthly life on December 18, 1935 in Englevale, Kansas, son of Pauline Brunk and Walter Merciez.
Devoted husband to Sally Bartoo Merciez (deceased) and Mary Clark Merciez; father to Jacob (Laura), Nicholas (Angie) and Matthew (Renee & Diana); grandfather to Rebecca, Joshua, Phillip, and Joseph.
Walter lost his own father at age three and was lovingly raised by the Brunk family. At age eighteen, Walter joined the Navy and served his country for twenty years as a Seabee and Nuclear Power Technician. Upon retirement in 1974, he moved to Lynchburg, Virginia and worked for Babcock and Wilcox retiring again in 1997.
An avid golfer, he greatly enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of his fellow golfers. He also enjoyed traveling, learning about foreign cultures and hosting foreign exchange students.
As the season changes, we witness the rebirth of life as all begins anew. Walter is with us eternally through his love and remains with us in heart and soul.
His wife and family would like to share Walter's favorite verse from the Bible: "We are surrounded by many who witness our acts and hear our words. Let us lay aside every weight, mitigate our problems and correct the many sins that so easily beset us. Let us run with patience the race set before us. Let us look unto Jesus, the author of our faith, who endured the cross to save us and forgave those that put him there. Let us remember and not be weary or faint of mind. We have not yet given with blood striving against sin, but let us be ready." Hebrews 12:1-3
