Barry (Bear) Malcolm Jones was born February 9, 1941 at home on a cold snowy night in Pennsboro, West Virginia and he passed away in Tyler, Texas on November 7, 2024 at the age of 83. He was the second son of Page and Louise Jones. There were only 18 months between him and his brother, Roger.
Barry was raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia where he was active in the Methodist youth group, Boy Scouts and he played little league baseball. He also had two paper routes and many stories to tell about his customers. He graduated Parkersburg High School in 1959 where he sang in the A cappella choir and played basketball until he went to work for Kroger saving money to buy a candy apple red convertible.
After graduation, Barry began working for Monongahela Power Company as a residential rep where he met Anne, the new home economist, when she offered him a piece of apple pie. They were married 5 months later. The following year they moved to Clarksburg West Virginia where Anne continued her career and Barry began at Fairmont State College and returned to work at Kroger. After receiving a BA degree in accounting, he went to work for Corning Glass Works as a sales rep in the electronic components division in Corning, New York.
After being moved from New York to Raleigh, to Orlando and back to Corning, he decided to take a good offer in Dallas moving his family there in 1972. They soon relocated to Cedar Creek Lake area where they remained for 52 years transitioning from Yankee to Texan. While living in Enchanted Oaks Barry became involved in the formation of Enchanted Oaks as a city and was on the first city council.
In 1988 Barry with two colleagues formed the Pro-Comp Sales Company of which he became president. He retired from Pro-Comp in 2008 and began dividing his time between Texas and their summer home in North Carolina. He then had time to enjoy his many interests such as wood turning, being a board member of the Connestee Fire Rescue Auxiliary, and riding his Can-Am weekly with friends, to breakfast or lunch, of course!
Barry was the Rock who was always there for family and friends.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his wife, his children Mark Barry, (Brandy)and Jennifer Anne Vermillion (Wayne); granddaughters, Hannah Bucko (Blaine) and Valerie Vermillion; great-granddaughters Alexa and Charlotte Bucko; niece Carrie Lewis and nephew Tim Jones. Barry was also blessed with many true friends during his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the scholarship fund at First Methodist Church of Mabank.
