Carole passed away January 5, 2023, in Kemp, Texas. Born with a servant’s heart, Carole’s main mission in life was to help others. Carole was lovingly raised by her parents, Spencer and Edith Elliott, grew up in Dallas and attended Christ the King Catholic School and Ursuline Academy. She furthered her education at The University of Texas, where she played basketball for the Lady Longhorns, and then later received her Masters in Psychiatric Nursing from UTMB in Galveston. Carole worked for Travis and Dallas County MHMR before becoming the Executive Director for the Collin County Crisis Center in 1984. She left the Crisis Center to work for Charter Behavioral Health in Dallas and then Parkland Hospital. In 1997, Carole moved to Colorado, where she founded Red Willow, an assisted living and transportation company for low income residents in Alamosa County. Her heart returned her to Dallas in 2001, to take care of her mother and be closer to her son. She became a realtor in the Dallas area with Ebby Halliday and was active for many years. Carole volunteered her time and services at many organizations including, Past Director of the Crested Butte Mountain Conference, Past President of the Auxiliary of Nexus Recovery Center, and member of the Salvation Army Dallas Women’s Auxiliary.
Throughout her lifetime, Carole was an amazing friend and mentor to many along the way. She dedicated the last 30 years of her life to sobriety and using her helping heart to guide others along their journey.
Carole’s greatest blessings in life were her son and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Grandmommy. She moved to Cedar Creek Lake full time in 2018 to be closer to them, and became involved in many social groups, including water aerobics and canasta at Cedar Creek Country Club and bridge at the Senior Center. Carole was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and any team her grandchildren played for. She was an avid animal lover all her life, and her presence is already missed by all.
Carole is preceded in death by her parents, Spencer and Edith Elliott; and infant son, Austin.
She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Stan and Jessica Steele; and grandchildren, Jacob and Juliette Steele; cousins Bitty Perkins and family and Lynn Yerger and family, of Abilene; numerous friends including, Preston Group, Ray of Hope, her water aerobics and card groups, and many others.
