Born on May 28, 1956, in Hutchinson, Kansas, Doug was a son of Lloyd Ray Rush and Marie
Alberta Pearson Rush.
Doug graduated from Hutchison High School in Hutchison, Kansas, before proudly serving in the United States Air Force beginning in 1975. For seven years, he operated radar systems aboard Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft. His military career included overseas assignments in South Korea—where he flew long-range reconnaissance missions over Vietnam and North Korea—and in Saudi Arabia, where he provided support for Operation Argo. Doug achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an honorable discharge in 1982. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at South Western University in Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Doug went on to build a career in retail management, holding leadership roles at companies including Cox Video, Walmart, and Dollar General.
When Doug was not working he often could be found spending time with his family. Doug was a loyal and loving family man, who took great pride in his family’s various achievements. Doug’s hobbies included working outside, wood carving, and spending a majority of his time chasing his young grandchildren. Doug took great pride in his family and held them in the highest regard. Doug enjoyed watching his family participate in sporting events at all levels and made every event he was able. Doug was the most loving husband, who for 33 years, never missed bringing home flowers to his wife. Doug instilled in all his children what a true father figure should be and always lead by example.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Loyd Rush; and sister, Janice Malone.
Along with his wife, Doug is survived by his children, Jeff and wife, Helen, of Durant, Oklahoma, and their three children, Kalee, Kimbree, and Kaitlen; Dustin and wife, Makayla, of Malakoff, Texas, and their three children, Dixie, Waylon, and Willow; Colby and wife, Josie, of Mabank, Texas, and their son, Colt Ryan. He is also survived by his son, Hunter Rush; daughters Halee Rush, Kelly Hedden, and Heather Harper; his mother, Marie Pearson Rush; and brothers, Anthony, Steve, and Bryon; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek
Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held privately at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
