Born on March 14, 1958, in Dallas, Texas, James was a son of the late James Eber Knight, Sr. and the late Ochenee Chambers Knight.
To know James was to know what a true friend he was. He lived his whole life lending a hand. James was a wealthy man but not by the world’s standards, but he was rich in family, friends, and the love he had to offer. James never met a stranger. He went to work at R & S Mechanical on August 11, 1981, and worked till April 2010. He did plumbing, was the backhoe operator, and more.
In September 1997 James gave his life to Christ and joined Liberty Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City. James became a new person, faithfully serving the Lord for almost 29 years. Wherever the need was, James was always there to help.
Along with his wife of 42 years, James is survived by his children Amanda Knight, Alisha Dunn and husband, Tyrail, Jamie Knight, and Aaron Hernandez (Knight) and wife, Ada; grandchildren Bryan and wife, Taylor, Tristan, Courtney and husband, Zack, Gracee and husband, Robert, Johnathon and wife, Susana, Ochenne and husband, Tori, Zane and wife, Izabelle, Ava, and Phoebe; great-grandchildren Asher, Elijah, Ezekiel, Riley, Kimora, Sevlen, Ellis, and Ky-zen; nephew Michael Brown; niece Kristi Brown; and siblings Kim Hernandez and Sherri Knight.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City, Texas. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in James’ memory to Liberty Baptist Church, 141 Manning St., Gun Barrel City, Texas 75156.
