Jessie Compton was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico on November 8,1947 to Wesley and Irene Compton. He was part of a very large family of 11 brothers and sisters. He spent his childhood in Las Cruces living and working on the Harvey farm.
Jessie was a passionate and dedicated man that when he pursued an interest, whether it was mechanical, hunting, education, law enforcement, or anything else that interested him, he was determined and driven to accomplish it to perfection.
Jessie was drafted at the age of 18 to serve in the US Army in 1966. He spent the 2 years of his service in Germany servicing and maintaining heavy artillery equipment and machinery. After his military service, he moved back to Las Cruces and met his first wife Brenda. They began their family and eventually moved to Texas in the early 1970's where Jessie continued his career with heavy equipment. First by driving long haul semi-trucks cross country and eventually began his career as a diesel mechanic. Jessie & Brenda had 3 children and settled in the Cedar Creek area and lived there for several years. When Jessie began his career with Penske Truck Leasing in 1980, he moved his family to Corsicana, Texas. Jessie worked for Penske Truck Leasing for 27 years and promoted through the company to District Service Manager to supervise all of the Texas and Louisiana shops. In 2001, he decided to step back from some of his responsibilities to be able to pursue another passion which was to become a licensed Texas Peace Officer, which he did by working every day and attending school every night.
He retired from Penske Truck Leasing after 27+ years of service in 2007. Jessie continued working at his second passion which was donating his time as a Peace Officer to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office where he served as a Reserve Deputy for over 15 years.
Jessie and Lori got married January 2000 and began their life together in Kerens, Texas on their little piece of country heaven. They enjoyed being able to have a place where all the family could gather to roam, explore, play, work, and enjoy each other's company. They lived in Kerens for almost 30 years before recently moving to Kemp about a year ago.
