

Jim was born on October 17, 1932, in St. Francis, Kansas, and was the second of three sons of Marion Fay Anderson and Vera Mae Caldwell Anderson.
Jim began his college studies at Denver University on a music scholarship, but that was cut short when he was drafted into the army and served three years stateside during the Korean War.
He returned to college after his military service and attended the University of Kansas, where he met his sweetheart, Mary. While at KU, he majored in business. He and “Mur” were married on March 30, 1957, and moved to Denver where he began working in finance and banking.
While living in Denver, their two daughters were born, Laurie in 1958 and Michelle in 1961. In 1972, Jim and his family moved to Dallas, Texas where he began a 33-year career at Dallas Theological Seminary before retiring in 2005. In 2012, Jim and Mary moved from their home in Dallas to the lake house they have owned for 50 years in Gun Barrel City. They attend First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City.
Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep early Monday morning, June 16.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Vera Anderson; his brothers and their wives, Jack and Agnes Anderson and John and Donna Anderson; his Aunts Vernie Combellick and Violet Newman, and his beloved son-in-law Volker Schiwietz.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, and by his two daughters, Michelle Anderson Schiwietz and Laurie Anderson Thames and husband Jim; his four granddaughters, Ana Schiwietz, Ericka Schiwietz Prather and husband Keven, Steffany Thames Joslin and husband Paul, and Abby Thames Cielonko and husband Luke. He is also survived by his six great grandchildren, Camdyn and Landon Joslin, Briggs and Beckham Prather, and Lyla and Nora Cielonko.
Interment will take place privately at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City, Texas.
