Born on September 20, 1931, in Carthage, Texas, Vera was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward Moore and the late Iris Rachel Rials Moore.
In her youth, Vera always wanted to become a nurse but instead she fell in love with Bill Sherman and dedicated her life to the family that would follow. Helping people in need was her passion, and she could always be found lending a hand to those less fortunate. She worked until she physically couldn’t anymore at her church’s clothes closet and food pantry. She was the matriarch of the family and a great Momma. Vera was and forever will be a beloved mother, grandmother, great-and even great-great-grandmother.
Vera is survived by her children Jimmy Dale Sherman (Annette), Patricia Faye Sherman, and Ross Sterling Christie (Tammy); her siblings Jerry Wayne Moore, Roger Dale Moore, and Mary Busby; and 72 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren!
Along with her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Vest; sons Barry Sherman and Larry Michael Sherman; sisters Mildred Tate and Carol Cathey; and brothers Johnny Ray Moore and T.E. Moore.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Styx New Life Church, 31800 W Cedar Creek Pkwy, Kemp, Texas, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Payne Springs Cemetery.
