Celebration of life graveside services for William Jay Swaner, 82, of Waxahachie, Texas will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank, Texas with Bro. Matt Faircloth officiating.
William Jay Swaner known as “Dub” by family and friends passed from this life on April 28, 2024 surrounded by loving family. Born March 20, 1942 in Knox County TX to Edward and Lillie Belle (Floyd) Swaner, he grew up in Weinert TX and graduated Weinert High School in ’60.
Dub was an all-star athlete and state-level competitor in track and football. In '60 he married his high school sweetheart Elise McGuire. Married 17 years, they raised two talented daughters Terry and Lori in Arlington TX. In '77 Dub met and married his second loving wife Joan making their home in Duncanville TX. Also he acquired into his family two close-knit and adventurous step-daughters Cathy Jurik and Donna Gentry with husbands Bo Jurik and Donnie Gentry. Dub and Joan celebrated a lifetime of adventures over three decades. Following Joan’s death he moved to Midlothian TX. There he met and married his loving third wife Hazel in 2015 and moved to Gun Barrel City TX. They enjoyed living a lakeside home retirement lifestyle for several precious years until she passed. Hazel's witty ingenious son Joe Pefuhl and wife Tina found the home where Dub would move next and blossom with friendships in Waxahachie TX. There he met a new love and best friend Mary Kozinski—a true God-send and blessing to him the last six months of his life!
Dub was multi-talented and built things from the ground up: a lake house and hydroponic greenhouse. From building kits he made a color TV, clocks and more—anything from Popular Mechanics Magazine. Dub was an accomplished licensed Master Plumber/HVAC who managed large commercial projects, involved also in the Texas Rangers Ballpark Stadium construction. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking, leather crafting and making clocks. Loving to tease everyone around him, he was a compassionate giving person who always thought the very best of everyone.
