

Betty Ruth Lawson (McKelvy), 74 of Rockford, was suddenly needed in Heaven Thursday, August 26, 2010. Born Dec. 6, 1935 in Russellville, AL where she married the love of her life Leonard Eugene Lawson on. Dec. 6, 1949. Betty attended Rock Valley College, was self-employed at home as a Beautician, in sales for Home Interior and quality control for Camcar Textron. Member of 20th St. Missionary Baptist Church, TOPS and KOPS. Betty enjoyed family holidays, poker at the family table, shopping, Tae Kwon Do, walking and especially chocolate. After retiring volunteered for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, St. Anthony Hospital, St. Annes Nursing Center and selling raffle tickets at the Senior Expo. Survivors include devoted husband of nearly 61 years Leonard of Rockford, brother Virgil McKelvy of Russellville, AL, sons Leonard Wayne Lawson (Barbara) Berryville, VA, Lee Lawson (Ron) Oxnard Shores, CA, Lynn (Terry) Lawson of Rockford, daughters Teresa Colvin (Ron) and Marlene Bloomingdale (Dave Veitch) of Rockford. Grandchilden Dayna, Jennifer, Erica, Lishya, Tiffany, Veronica, Joshua, Tanya, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
Those passing before her include parents Alonzo and Emma McKelvy, sister Frances, brother Coy, son Lambert, granddaughter Sabrina and best friend Frances Ervin. Service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 3 at Sunset Funeral Home, Machesney Park officiated by her pastor, Rev. Pat Chadwick. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
