Dennis VanderWaal, 70, died March 6, 2017. Dennis lived his childhood in Rockton, IL, eventually settling in Roscoe, IL. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Germany as a paramedic. He attended Rock Valley College and owned and operated Rockford Septic Tank Company and D.R. VanderWaal Construction. He enjoyed learning about history in addition to current events. Dennis loved boating on the Rock River with his family and dogs as well as visiting Fort De Soto State Park in Florida. Born September 13th, 1946, in Rockford, IL to Henry and Eleanor VanderWaal.
Survivors include children, Jason VanderWaal, Jennifer VanderWaal; wife, Cindy and children, Amanda VanderWaal and Kaitlynn VanderWaal; grandchildren, Emily, Alex, Audrey, Nathan; dear friend, Mike Millikin.
Visitation from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 8, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL, with a presentation of food and beverage. Pastor Mickey Klink from Hope Evangelical Church will honor Dennis at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans, a cause which Dennis supported throughout his life.
