Douglas M. "Doug" Wanke I, 73, of Loves Park, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025. He was born October 17, 1952 in Rockford, IL, the son of Robel F. and Mary (O'Reilly) Wanke II. Doug was employed as a skilled machinist in the Rockford area. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Doug loved fishing and restoring cars. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
Doug is survived by his children, Jason (Anna) Grey, Joshua Wanke I, and Andrea Wanke; brother Robel F. Wanke III; great friend, Rich Clark; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Wanke, sister Patti Reiling, children Mark Allen Wanke, Douglas Mark Wanke II and grandson, Joshua Wanke II.
A visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a time of sharing to begin at 12:00 p.m. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
