Esther L. (Metz) Messing, 88, of Rockford passed away June 12, 2016. Born December 14, 1927 in Apple River, IL. Daughter of Louis W. and Mabel (Nyborg) Metz. Esther was born and raised in the Apple River area moving to Rockton, then Rockford where she lived most of her life.
She graduated from Hononegah High School in 1945. Later she attended Business College in Rockford and worked as an accountant and tax preparer for many years. Esther was married to Sam Provenzano in 1953, then Merle M. Messing in 1973. Both husbands pre-deceased her. Merle and Esther enjoyed traveling all over the country. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills, especially her Christmas cookies.
Survived by children, David Provenzano and James Provenzano; stepchildren, Christopher Messing, Rebecca Earnst, Sidney Messing; granddaughter, Mary Messing. Predeceased by parents; infant son, Timothy Provezano; sister, Ruth Adams; brothers, Howard and Harold Metz.
Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Officiated by Rev. Steve St. Jules. Visitation at 1 p.m. until time of service.
