Fred Hutcherson III was born October 27, 1935, in Evanston, IL, and gained his wings on February 18, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his devoted family. He was born to Fred Hutcherson Jr. and Regina (Laurent) Hutcherson. He was affectionately called “Bunny” by his family. In 1953 he graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, IL, and went on to earn an associate degree from Kendall College in Chicago, IL.
Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956, he served as a Meteorologist. He was honorably discharged in 1962, where he went on to run the family restaurant business, called “The Corner Spot”. Fred had many hobbies and interests, he enjoyed photography, swimming, scuba diving and he even worked as a Life Guard on the beaches of Lake Michigan. He was also a member of the Detroit Ski Club in the late 1960s.
Because of his love for photography, Fred landed a job with Pioneer Press in the Chicago area. In 1973 he relocated to Rockford, IL, and worked for Rockford newspapers, retiring after 20 years. He drove a bus for Headstart, as well as Careavan and Septran for many years. On weekends he would photograph weddings. His camera was always around his neck to capture candid photos at family gatherings and special occasions.
Fred married Sharon Alexander, the love of his life, on October 27, 1973. They had three daughters, Lisa, Orian, and Jeanine. He attended school sporting events and field trips, often fulfilling chaperone duties. His children were his pride and joy, and always his first priority. He taught his daughters everything he knew regarding photography. He always stressed the importance of education. He was a father figure to many young people, who lovingly referred to him as Papa Freddy.
In 1976 he joined the Kiwanis Club of Rockford. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, he was on several bowling leagues. Most recently he enjoyed being a part of the senior league at Park Lanes in Loves Park, IL. Fred was quite fond of traveling and has spent time in many countries, later retelling his loved ones of his numerous adventures. In 2011, Fred accepted a Congressional Medal of Honor on behalf of his father.
Fred is predeceased by his father, Fred Hutcherson Jr., and his mother, Regina Hutcherson. He is survived by his wife Sharon Hutcherson; three daughters Lisa Anderson, Orian Hutcherson, and Jeanine (Tricia) Hutcherson; four grandchildren, Austria (Marcos) Martinez, Joshua (Allison) Anderson, Tavell Bolden, and Oriana Hargraves; three great-grandchildren, Reese and Jayden Anderson, and Max Martinez as well as a great deal of other beloved family and friends.
Visitation for Fred will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Spring Creek UCC, 4500 Spring Creek Rd Rockford, IL, followed by a service to celebrate Fred’s life at 12:00 pm
